Kävelyllä*
*Having a walk, walking
After living more than fifteen years away from my hometown, I decided to try living there for a while. This series is from that time.
I was trying to ponder what is life nowadays in the small town of Mikkeli, Finland. One of my childhood memories about this town was that there was nothing to do for a teenager who would get bored easily. I started walking around the town with a camera, checking out my childhood neighbourhoods and in the end, it lead to the creation of this series.
It was a good lesson for me how our point of views change and how some of the scars are permanent. I tried to see the surroundings in a different way that I normally see them and let go of past ghosts. By returning to your roots you have a possibility to discover something new of yourself or to find a long lost piece of the puzzle.
This was my first private exhibition and I was proud to hang my photographs on the dusty walls in Keskusbaari, KB. A legendary pub, that was established in 1961 and it is still in the same place. If you ever stumble in Mikkeli, KB is the place to have a drink or two.
